Quotes from the Spirits world
By Mike Armstrong

The world of alcohol, which I often call spirits, has been around since man started civilization. I read a lot of books on the history of bartending and cocktails. Probably my favorite quotes to read are what figures from the past say about spirits. There is a good chance you have heard these statements, but maybe not.
“He was a wise man who invented beer,” –Plato, ancient Greek philosopher.
“Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink”--British noblewoman Lady Astor said to English Prime Minister Winston Churchhill.
“Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it,” Churchill’s answer.
“If God hadn’t intended us to drink beer, he would not have given us stomachs,”--David Daye famous bagpiper and bagpipe maker.
“When I read about the evils of drinking; I gave up reading”-- Henny Youngman, Vaudeville and stand up comic from the 1950s to 1970s.
“Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy”--Benjamin Franklin, American founding father.
“I saw a sign which said ‘Drink Canada Dry’, so I have started,”--Brendan Behan, Irish poet from the 1960s.
“I cook with wine, and sometimes I even add it to the food”--- W.C. Fields, iconic comedian from the 1930s to 1940s.
